Catalogues

Our specialist auctions are illustrated in full colour catalogues which are available by mail or on line, two to three weeks before the sale. The Sale is also posted with catalogue descriptions and colour images on line with two of the UK’s largest Antique auction sites the-saleroom.com and ukauctioneers.com

Viewing

Our weekly Thursday interior sales are on view every Wednesday 9.00am – 5.00pm, (closed for lunch 1.00pm – 1.30pm) and prior to the sale held at 10.00am every Thursday.

Fine Art and Antique Sales are on view for a three day period prior to the Auction giving prospective buyers ample opportunity to inspect items before the sale.

Condition reports

We are pleased to forward condition reports on any lot, where practical. All weights and measurements given in the catalogue should be regarded as approximate.  NB: The colours printed in the catalogue are not necessary true. Condition reports are based solely on our opinion and are for guidance only and no responsibility is accepted for their accuracy. Buyers are strongly encouraged to view.

Register as a bidder

All first time buyers need to register with us. Once registration is complete you will be provided with a permanent paddle number which can be used in all future sales

To Register, you will need to provide two forms of identification:

1. A Passport or photographic driving licence.

2. A Utility bill or document showing your name and address.

You will be asked to show your documents, or fax or email copies.

Please note: Registering with the-saleroom.com or through our web site does not automatically register you with us.

Choose a bidding method

There are four easy ways to bid at Callan’s

In Person

After you have registered and collected your paddle number you are free to bid in the Auction Room.  The Auctioneer will announce bids and if you are interested in buying the ‘Lot’ raise you paddle and continue bidding until you wish to stop, or if everyone else stops bidding the Auctioneer will bring down the gavel to close the sale and you are the winner of the lot. Ensure the Auctioneer repeats the paddle number correctly when confirming the sale.

Commission Bidding

If you are unable to attend the sale you can leave a commission bid. This will be executed on your behalf by the Auctioneer who will purchase the Lot as cheaply as possible having regard to any reserve and any competing bids.

Please Note: We offer this service at the bidders risk. Any absentee /Commission bids can be placed by telephone 01292 267681 or by email or simply completing the bidding forms at reception and must be received no later than close of business the day prior to the Auction.  We suggest telephoning the office to confirm the receipt of your bids

Telephone Bidding

If you are unable to attend the sale it may be possible to bid on the telephone for higher value Lots.  The number of lines are limited, therefore, please note this service is reserved for lots with an estimate of £500 or more.  It is advisable to leave a covering bid in case we are not able to contact you by telephone.   All lines must be booked before the day of the Auction and preferably some time in advance.

Telephone bidding involves many variables and whilst we take every care to ensure the smooth running of this service, we cannot be held liable if your bids are missing or the telephone signal fails.

Live on line bidding

Live on line bidding is now available for our Fine Art and Antique sales via the-saleroom.com, enabling you to take part in the bidding from anywhere in the world, live as it happens. To bid on line you need to register at www.the-saleroom.com subject to approval.

In completing the bidder registration on www.the-saleroom.com and providing your credit card details and unless alternative arrangements are agreed with Thomas R. Callan Ltd., you

(I) Authorise Thomas R. Callan Ltd., if they so wish, to charge the credit card given in part or full payment, including fees for items successfully purchased in the Auction via the-saleroom.com and

(II) Confirm that you are authorised to provide these credit card details to Thomas R. Callan Ltd., through www.the-saleroom.com and agree that Thomas R. Callan Ltd., are entitled to permit the shipping of goods to the card holder name and card Holders address provided in fulfilment of the sale.
