Callan’s History Turns up at Auction

Home / Uncategorized / Callan’s History Turns up at Auction

Last week part of an Ayrshire post, dated August 4th 1939 was found in an old chest of drawers that was consigned for sale at Callan’s. The drawer lining was in excellent condition and the article makes interesting reading.

The auction page has adverts for four auction houses all in Ayr, namely Afflecks, Sandgate Ayr, Thomas R Callan, 108 High Street Ayr, James Bowie, Newmarket Street Ayr and Archibald Galbraith, 74 High Street Ayr.

All four auction houses advertising sales of household furnishings. Callan’s advert announced the sale of 50 afternoon dresses!!!

A very kind customer presented Michael Callan with a copy of the Rifle Rangers by Mayne Reid. What was so special was the interior label, the book was a prize given to Thomas Callan (the founder of Thomas R Callan, Auctioneers & Valuators) for perfect attendance, Alloway Public School session 1914-1915.
